The Physiotherapy Board is pleased to announce the creation of an annual research scholarship. The scholarship has a maximum value of $5,000 plus GST, and will be awarded to an undergraduate physiotherapy student who has successfully completed their third year of study.
Research must be related to the functions of The Board (as stated in the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003).
“The Board is committed to promoting education and public awareness,” says Janice Mueller, Chairperson of the Physiotherapy Board. “The establishment of this scholarship is consistent with this aim and is anticipated to also contribute to the body of knowledge within the profession.”
The scholarship will alternate between the University of Otago and Auckland University of Technology each year. The scholarship is for students who are on course to successfully complete the third year of their physiotherapy degree course. Selection will be made at a time that allows the scholarship to be awarded late in the second semester of the academic year, and will be administered by the respective institutions.
“The Physiotherapy Board’s Summer Scholarship will give undergraduate students the opportunity to undertake research that is meaningful for the Board and the Physiotherapy profession in New Zealand,” says Professor Leigh Hale, Dean of School of Physiotherapy at the University of Otago. “The successful applicant will gain an insight into the Board’s roles and activities, and I look forward to working with the Board on this exciting new venture and its outcomes.”
“This is a great opportunity for physiotherapy students to make a significant contribution to the body of knowledge around the regulation of physiotherapy in New Zealand – rather than referring to overseas healthcare jurisdictions,” adds Lynne Taylor, Head of Physiotherapy at Auckland University of Technology.
