Physiotherapy Standards Framework

Physiotherapy Standards Framework

The Physiotherapy Standards Framework provides the foundation for the regulation of physiotherapy in New Zealand. This framework outlines the minimum expectations members of the public should have of individual practitioners and the profession as a whole.

If you or a family member has had an experience with a physiotherapist that does not meet the expectation of this framework you may wish to raise a concern or complaint here.

The introduction to the Standards Framework can be downloaded here.

This framework consists of three key documents:

  1. The Aotearoa New Zealand Physiotherapy Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct

  2. The Physiotherapy Standards

  3. The Physiotherapy practice thresholds

Note the Physiotherapy Practice Thresholds linked above are current until January 1, 2024 at which point the amended thresholds (available here) will take effect.
These Thresholds come into effect for Practitioners on 01 January, 2024 and for physiotherapy schools on 01 January, 2025

Please familiarise yourself with the changes by reading the Summarised highlights for Aotearoa New Zealand context here and by watching the video below. The current Thresholds for practitioners (current until 1 Jan, 2024) and schools (current until 1 Jan, 2025) are here.
