REGISTRATION FOR NEW ZEALAND QUALIFIED APPLICANTS
Under the HPCA Act 2003, you must be registered and hold a current Annual
Practising certificate issued by the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand
before you can commence practice as a physiotherapist in New Zealand.
Registration is a legal process and you must complete all the details
required and provide the documents in the specified format before the
Board can consider your application.
Please note that the onus is on you the applicant to comply with all the
Board’s requirements. Your application must be complete
and have enclosed all the documentation before it is sent to the Board.
Before you can be registered you must:
- Have successfully completed a Bachelor of Health Science (Physiotherapy)
at Auckland University of Technology or a Bachelor of Physiotherapy
at University of Otago.
- Provide all the information and documentation requested by the Board.
- Pay the registration fee of $180.
- Meet the fitness for registration criteria detailed in Section 16
HPCA Act 2003.
The Registration Process for New Zealand
Students from Auckland University of Technology and the University of
Otago may send in applications at the same time. You must supply
a complete application; incomplete applications will be returned
to you. Otago graduates can apply as soon as they have graduated
in early December and are able to include a certified copy of their degree
certificate. AUT students and those few Otago students who did not receive
their degree certificate in December can forward an original complete
official academic transcript (academic record) of your undergraduate physiotherapy
programme issued by the academic registry of your university instead.
The course transcript must be obtained from the university who may charge
a small fee.
You must include the documents the Board requires. Make sure that when
certified copies are required you ensure that certification is properly
undertaken. Certified copies must be
appropriately witnessed photocopies of originals. Only JPs and other authorised
officials are able to perform this task.
Finally, be aware that your application is a Statutory Declaration made
under the Oaths and Declarations Act 1957.
If your application is successful you will be awarded registration and
issued with an annual practising certificate to enable you to legally
commence employment as a physiotherapist. Please refer to the Information/Application
booklet for further details.
Once registered, it is your legal responsibility to keep the Board informed
of your current address(es).
